Selected for the TENSO Young composers workshop
The two sessions of the workshop took place on Friday 16 May - afternoon - and Sunday 18 May - morning, in Mechelen (Belgium).
In total, six composers have been selected.
The workshop was led by composer/conductor James Wood (UK/DE), joined by Dutch composer Leo Samama as second coach. The choir is the DR Vokalensemblet under Olof Boman.
For those who are selected for the next round, TENSO will commission to bring a new piece to Riga in October during the TENSO days, based on a WWI text in remembrance of the 100th anniversary of the start of WWI. More texts to be found: http://www.frompoetrytomusic.eu/

Listen to the sketches from the workshop
Georgi has been selected for the second round of the Tenso Young Composers Workshop. A short report on his piece: "The scores you submitted for application were very effective, and show mastery of sound and form. The score you brought to the workshop was perhaps more problematic in its notation, but it is clear that you dare to cross boundaries, learn of your mistakes and still write music that is communicative and expressive."
Very interesting experiments
According to the jury, Sztojanov “brought very interesting experiments to the workshops” and “[i]t is clear that he feels completely at ease with the natural flow of the language, and his settings of postcard scribbles are poignant and effective.” What’s more, the jury points out that “while the jury cheers the fact that he gives the performers and the performability of his music prime position, they still want to encourage him to cross boundaries and not to be afraid to challenge the singers.”
